Non-sortable FCs are used for large and bulky items such as TVs and patio umbrellas. Amazon Robotics is a subsidiary of Amazon charged with the creation and maintenance of these robots.
Some of them have robots that help employees in picking and stowing. In sortable fulfillment centers, associates stow, pick, pack and ship small and medium sized packages. There are several categories of Amazon’s warehouses:įulfillment centers (FCs) – these are large buildings that employ thousands of associates.įulfillment centers are categorized into sortable and non-sortable. In total, Amazon is estimated to have around a million fulltime and part-time workers employed in these warehouses. Each of the buildings has a capacity of 1000 to 1500 associates. These facilities range from 600,000 to 800,000 square feet in size. With almost 200 facilities in the US and around the world, Amazon’s warehouse network is one of the largest in the world.
